After you have run your successful event, the next thing you can do is get the word out about what you have done.

1:

Find local magazines and newspapers that publish stories about people and events occurring in your community. On this page is a short list with links to some popular print publications, but there are many online magazines and newspapers that you can try as well.

2:

Contact them and see if they would be interested in your story.

  • Email directly to the person who writes the column you are interested in. Their email can be found either on the Masthead (which publishes the list of staff), at the beginning or end of the column you are interested in, or on a Contact Us page online.

  • Some publications have a form you can fill out online to submit a story.

3:

Send them information and pictures from your event.

  • Write the information in a Press Release style and include the following info: Headline, Date & Location, Intro (summary of the Press Release), Body (more detailed info, quotes from attendees and the mission of the organization you are helping), Contact Person Email and Phone for follow up and a Link to the Photos.

  • Rename your photos as the names of the people who are in the picture.

  • Put the photos in a Dropbox or Google Drive Folder and make sure the privacy setting is set to "anyone with link can edit".
