What: Make inspirational cards for children in hospitals. Cards may seem simple, but they can make an impact on the kids and their families and brighten their day.

How:

  • You can use pre-made blank cards, or any kind of construction or cardstock paper for the card.

  • Have Scissors, Markers, Scotch Tape and Glue Sticks handy.

  • Optional embellishments: Glitter Pens, Glitter Glue, Crayons, Colored Pencils, Magazines (for collages and/or cutting out words), 3D Stickers, Stencils, Decorative Tape, Hot Glue Gun, Decorative Scissors (like zig-zag), Shaped Hole Punches, Googly Eyes, Paint, etc.

  • It is recommended to completely avoid Sprinkle Glitter, Fuzz Balls, Feathers, Felt Stickers or other fuzzy materials as they don't travel well and could be messy or potentially a hazard to a sick child if detached.

  • Draw pictures and write uplifting messages. At the request the hospital, don’t write "Get Well", "Feel Better" or similar, since some of the patients suffer from medical conditions that are chronic, life-long, progressive and/or terminal.

SUGGESTED MESSAGES:

Stay strong - You are awesome - Never forget how amazing you are - You rock - I hope you have a great day today- You shine brighter than the sun - You inspire me - You are brave

  • Avoid Religious Messages. But feel free to write cards in different languages.

  • Sign the card from your First Name only. You can include your age, and if you are sending cards out of state, include your City and State.

Where: If you can't find a local hospital that accepts cards for patients, try one of the many National organizations that does like Cardz for Kidz.

What: make cards for local families in need at the holiday times (Thanksgiving, Christmas or any holiday). Let children and families in shelters know that they are not alone and people care.

Where: see list of local shelters here

About SASHA

IMG_1198.JPG

I am currently a High School Student.  Since I was in 5th grade, I have done a lot of community service geared towards helping kids through my family’s non-profit. I have participated in and led many different types of events and programs. Friends and classmates have often asked me for ideas about where to volunteer or how to run a community service program. I thought it would be useful to put my experiences and suggestions all in one place so people can find things that interest them.

Any questions?
