What: Sleep is a basic need and important for children’s development. Challenges – including low family income, housing insecurity, and family instability – prevent many children from following a bedtime routine, feeling comfortable and secure at night, and getting the sleep they need. This can have a lasting, negative effect on children’s health, social and emotional well-being, and school performance. Many children don’t have pajamas to sleep in.

How:

  • Make a flyer and amazon wish list with pajamas of varying sizes and genders

  • Encourage getting teen and adult sizes, since this age is often overlooked when people are shopping. No nightgowns, no used items.

  • Get other kids involved to raise awareness for the charity by sharing the flyer or organizing the donations.

  • Have volunteers sort and label the pajamas so they don’t get mixed up in transition. Fold or roll the pajamas, label the size (specify if child or adult size) on a piece of paper and secure the paper and the pajamas together with a rubber band.

Where: Pajama Program Palm Beach, foster group homes, emergency shelters

You can ask friends and family to donate pajamas instead of giving you a gift on your birthday like these two sisters did!

About SASHA

IMG_1198.JPG

I am currently a High School Student.  Since I was in 5th grade, I have done a lot of community service geared towards helping kids through my family’s non-profit. I have participated in and led many different types of events and programs. Friends and classmates have often asked me for ideas about where to volunteer or how to run a community service program. I thought it would be useful to put my experiences and suggestions all in one place so people can find things that interest them.

Any questions?
