What: Donate items to organizations that work with sick children to cheer them up.

For example: Patients at Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital rely on the generosity of our community to brighten their hospital stay. Your donation of new, unused, unwrapped gifts helps create a comfortable, healing environment. Gifts and toys are used by our child life team year-round for special holiday and birthday celebrations, end-of-treatment parties and to celebrate significant milestones.

How:

  • Find the organization or hospital's wish list of items. Usually unwrapped gifts are accepted such as blankets, toys, stickers, arts & crafts projects, new books, toiletries, socks and underwear.

  • All items must be new and unused. Nothing old, even if unused. Add a card of encouragement. See suggestions on what to write here.

-Do a collection of a specific item (like blankets, cute knit hats or fun socks)

-Collect toys

-Make activity bags for the kids to entertain themselves: Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital website has a list of 8 different types of "Joy Kits" you can make for the kids of different ages https://www.jdch.com/-/media/jdch/files/child-life/joy-kits.ashx?la=en&hash=514476DB59D7F2DF93426FE1C6AE218B

About SASHA

IMG_1198.JPG

I am currently a High School Student.  Since I was in 5th grade, I have done a lot of community service geared towards helping kids through my family’s non-profit. I have participated in and led many different types of events and programs. Friends and classmates have often asked me for ideas about where to volunteer or how to run a community service program. I thought it would be useful to put my experiences and suggestions all in one place so people can find things that interest them.

Any questions?
